The memorial gallery on the right-hand side of Ardilea Close has been expanded from three panels to five (compared to last year/2013) and the first new face is “Charlie Wilson – age 66”.

Cumann Na mBan was founded on April 2nd, 1914, and it is being commemorated in various ways, including a mural on Ascaıll Ard na bhFeá/Beechmount Avenue.
Cumann Na mBan was the women’s division of the Irish Volunteers and is best remembered for its role in the Easter Rising of 1916. Its members were involved in the occupation of many locations. Some, including (non-combatant) Winifred Carney, were in the GPO, while Countess Markievicz, the main figure of the mural, was in St. Stephen’s Green. (Here is an RTÉ gallery of vintage photographs, including one of Markievicz surrendering.)
The letters “Cnamb” on a rifle formed the badge of Cumann Na mBan. The Irish “Ní saoırse go saoırse na mban” means “[There is] No freedom until the freedom of women”.
Replaces the Fıanna Éıreann centenary, 1909-2009, in which Countess Markievicz was also featured.

This is a 1916 Societies (.ie) placard on the disused barracks in Plater’s Hill/Lineside Coalisland Plater’s Hill, Coalisland. See previously: Never Treat With The Enemy.

“Mol an óıge agus tıocfaıdh sí” – “youth responds to praise”, such as when playing in the annual Easter Gaelic games tournament, now in its eighth year. Joe Cahill (WP) holds the cup aloft.
The group in the bottom left corner are Pat O’Hare, Frank Cahill, Tom Cahill, (the three Cahills were featured in the previous mural) Ned Maguire, Jr., Ned Maguire, Sr., Alec Crowe, Paddy Meenan, Tommy Crowe, Dal Delaney, and Hugh Elliot.
In the crook of Cahill’s arm are Rita McParland, Sean Wallace, Paddy Corrigan, John Pettigrew, and John Stone. None of these adults is still alive; all were from the local area.
The chalet bungalows in the background on the left are gone, but you can see images of them on the Belfast Forum.

This painted board is by members of the Youth First (web) group in the Bogside. In the image above, a young mother sporting both a nappy pin and an Easter lily tends to her infant child while casting a look back at Free Derry corner, the silhouettes of marchers, and washing on a line.

“Máırtın Ó Dochartaıgh 1968-2011. Is cuma mura mbím beo ach lá agus oíche amháın fad agus go mbíonn lomrá [ıomrá] ar mo chuıd eachtraí ı mo dhıadh. [It is of no matter whether I live only a single day and night so long as my endeavours gain repute after I am gone.] Máırtín will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues in the youth and community organisations in the Marrowbone and across Belfast.”

Bobby Sands has been replaced at the centre of this Enniskillen board by a copy of the 1916 Proclamation flanked by Easter lilies. (See the previous version.) The rest of the board remains the same: graveside mourners surrounded by the four provinces and Celtic knotwork. The sunburst and starry plough have been painted in the corners of the out-building.
