The practice of republican women banging binlids to alert the community to the presence of British soldiers is remembered in this Westland Street, Derry, mural. The celebration is to take place in Belfast on Sunday 11th; the only Sunday the 11th in 1991 was in August; the side-wall was then changed for a another march the following Sunday.

Derry’s Rossville flats were constructed in 1966 and knocked down in 1986 and 1989 (Derry Journal). Their demolition is turned into a public art piece on a large board between a set of goalposts in Fahan Street (above) and seen also from Butcher Street (below).

A phoenix rises out of a Celtic cross wrapped in the Tricolour. “This monument was erected by the republican people of greater Ballymurphy in proud and loving memory of all those volunteers from the area who gave their lives in the fight for Irish freedom. Unveiled by Gerry Adams 12th May 1985. I ndil cuimhne [chuimhne] i gcónai ag na poblachtánaigh ón cheantar Barr Cluanai. Also in memory of the civilians who died at the hands of the British Army, RUC, UDR and loyalist extremists.”
