“In memory of Vol. Frankie Ryan, Vol. Patricia Black, Óglaigh Na hÉireann, both killed in action (Eng) 15th Nov. 1991.” The pair were killed by a premature bomb explosion St Albans in Hertfordshire, England. Their target was the British Army military band, which was scheduled to play in the town centre (QURC).
The pair are also remembered by a large boulder at the top of Bell Steele Road.

A Mhuıre banríon na nGaeıl guıgh orthu.” Sutton gives the first name as “Damian”. Shot by the UFF at Dairy Farm shopping centre, where he worked, and site of the plaque.

“Bring them home – free the Cuban 5”. Free Derry Corner flies the Cuban flag in support of the “Cuban 5”. The five were Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, and René González, intelligence agents arrested in 1998 and accused of spying on the US; the Cuban government said they were in the US to infiltrate the Cuban exile community. Their convictions were overturned by a Circuit panel but upheld by the full court (WP).

For the anniversary of his death, a poster of Volunteer Eamonn Lafferty is placed alongside the ogham stone and dolmen to the 1st battalion, Derry Brigade, IRA. Lafferty was killed on August 18th, 1971 – there are both a mural and a headstone to his memory in Kildrum Gardens.

“Ballymurphy Massacre – Eddie Doherty – murdered by British Army 10 August 1971, aged 31, father of 4, corporation worker.”
Doherty was shot by a British Army soldier, one of 24 people to die as internment was introduced in August, 1971 (BelTel | Irish Story). The plaque is at the spot where Doherty was shot, on the Whiterock Road at Brittons Parade, Belfast. Profile at ballymurphymassacre.com.

The back of the Springhill memorial garden is decorated for the 30th anniversary of the 1981 hunger strike in which ten republican prisoners died in the H-Blocks.

“H-Block 1981, Maghaberry 2012”, “End forced strip searches”, “End controlled movement”, “Stop the torture of Irish political prisoners.”
The “August 2010 Agreement” is an agreement reached between prisoners and authorities about treatment in Roe House, an exclusively republican wing in Maghaberry. The tower beyond is the Springfield Rd police station.
