Éırígí

Éırígí (web) was formed in 2006 and became a political party in 2007, with candidates standing for two seats in 2011’s local elections. For its public art, it used stencils to promote itself and to highlight issues such as the continued presence of British troops in the North (“There are more British troops in Ireland than in Iraq”).

Truth And Justice Now!

“Pearse Jordan, unarmed IRA volunteer, a victim of Britain’s shoot-to-kill policy. Murdered by RUC! Covered up by PSNI. Over 1,100 people have been killed by British government policies of collusion – all with official impunity. Justice delayed – justice denied. Truth and justice now!” Jordan was shot in 1992. The killing was ruled unlawful by the European Court Of Human Rights in 1991 (WP).

Collusion

It’s not clear that this ‘collusion’ tarp – with spider-legs of MI5, UDR, PSNI, RHC, UFF, LVF, UDA, UVF and a web beginning at the door of 10 Downing Street – was ever hung, perhaps due to the spelling mistake: “A web of double-agents, death squads and deciept [sic]”. Similar image on Andersonstown Road. It is lying at the Glen Road-Falls Road junction, site of the old RUC barracks.

Pat Finucane

“Targeted by British Establishment; Executed by Loyalist killer gang.” Solicitor and “human rights activist” Pat Finucane was shot in 1989 at his home in north Belfast by loyalist paramilitaries aided by MI5. Collusion in the killing was admitted in 2011 by then-Prime Minister David Cameron. Ten years after Finucane’s death, Rosemary Nelson was also assassinated. “If you don’t defend human rights lawyers, who will defend human rights? – Rosemary Nelson”. The plaque was “unveiled by his family Sunday 11th February 2007”.

The board in Beechmount Drive was originally black.

Angela Gallagher

“Dedicated to the memory of Angela Gallagher who was killed near this spot 3rd September 1971 aged 17 months. Jesus, friend of children, bless the children of the whole world. “May you stop here to remember the innocents amid the tragedy of conflict”” Gallagher was killed by a ricocheting IRA bullet.

Gibraltar

“I ndıl chuımhne – In proud and loving memory of Volunteers Dan McCann, Mairead Farrell, Sean Savage, Óglaıgh Na hÉıreann who were executed by British Crown forces in Gibraltar 6th March, 1988.” The three were killed in Gibraltar by the SAS in what was known as “Operation Flavius”. The European Court Of Human Rights found that the use of force was unlawful. (WP)

“Oh! Cold March winds that pierce the dark/You cry in aged tones/For souls of folk you’ve brought to God/But still you bear the moans./Oh! Weeping wind this lonely night/My mother’s heart is sore,/Oh! Lord of all breathe freedom’s breath/That she may weep no more. – Bobby Sands”.

Colin Area Remembers With Pride And Honour

“Everyone tells me I’m a feminist. All I know is that I’m just as good as others, and that especially means men. I am definitely a socialist and I’m definitely a Republican. I believe in a united socialist country, definitely socialist. Capitalism can offer our people nothing and yet that’s the main interest of the British in Ireland – Óglach Maıréad Farrell.” Farrell was one of the Gibraltar 3 (along with Sean Savage and Dan McCann), killed by SAS soldiers in 1988. Painted by Rısteard Ó Murchú.

The RIC Murder Gang

One RIC member was killed and another wounded outside the Beehive Bar in a shoot-out with IRA men in September 1920. In reprisal, County Inspector Harrison and his men killed Vol. Ned Trodden, Vol. Sean Gaynor, and Sean McFadden (Rısteard Ó Murchú). The gang, under Detective Inspector Nixon, would go on to kill more Catholics in 1921 and in 1922 commit the McMahon killings and the Arnon Street killings, in each of which 6 people died.
