Unbowed, Unbroken

Above is a recent (2014-09) mural by Damian Walker in the New Lodge, in support of republican prisoners in Maghaberry, showing a single bloodied republican prisoner surrounded by three baton-wielding officers. Sponsored the 32-County Sovereignty Movement (web).

Easter Commemorations

Top is a 1916 Societies board (in Rossville Street) announcing a commemoration for Richard Quigley on Easter Saturday; below is a 32 County Sovereignty Movement board (in Eastway) for an Easter Rising commemoration on Easter Monday.

Richie Quigley died on “active service” on April 21st, 1984 when he was hit by debris from a van-bomb that exploded prematurely (UPI). 2014 is the thirtieth anniversary of his death.

End British Internment!

“End British internment! Maghaberry. End forced strip searching! End controlled movement!” The high-security prison holds 1,000 prisoners and segregates loyalists and republicans, a situation described as “a festering sore” in a recent inspection (Tele). Republicans say that the current crisis overlooks existing issues such as controlled movement and strip searches.

Interned By Britain

“Interned by Britain, facilitated by Stormont.” Marian Price was released on May 39th, 2013 (BBC) but it took a while for some IRPWA (web) placards to come down. The first is in Lone Moor Road, Derry. The second – “Support the republican POWs on protest in Maghaberry” – is in Eastway, Derry and was later vandalised (see M09535). The third is in Brompton Park, Ardoyne, Belfast.

See previously: Free Marian Price (2011) and Free Marian Price Now (2012). The other portrait in the final image is Martin Corey – see e.g. 38 Days.
