Support The POWs

This is the ‘Nebula’ version of Free Derry Corner taken over by a republican protest to “Support the POWs”.

“Thatcher 81 – Ford 2011” refers to Margaret Thatcher, UK Prime Minister at the time of the second hunger strike and David Ford, NI Justice Minister at the time of the campaigns to free Marian Price and Brendan Lillis (BBC).

Save Brendan Lillis

Two Brendan Lillis boards at the former site of the Andersonstown RUC barracks. The first is below No Bail For Murderers; the second is on top of On The One Road.

The accusation of “medical neglect” an appeal for compassionate release due to Lillis’s suffering from the arthritic condition, ankylosing spondylitis. For political background, see Release Brendan Lillis.

Release Brendan Lillis

“Release Brendan Lillis – don’t let him die” on the walls of Derry and Free Derry Corner. Originally convicted in 1977 on explosives charges, Lillis’s license was revoked in 2009 on charges of plotting a kidnapping and bank heist (BBC). He would be released in August on compassionate grounds (BBC | BelTel).

Release The Prisoners

This Hillborough Drive stencil dates back to the ceasefire and the Agreement, when the release of political prisoners was a prominent issue in negotiations on both sides. Republicans had a “green ribbon” campaign; loyalists used the the stencil shown here, which has fared better than the plaster it is painted on.
