From inside the Felons Club in Andersonstown, Belfast: a version of Walter Paget’s Birth Of The Irish Republic above the famous quote from Pearse’s O’Donovan Rossa oration – “The fools, the fools, they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace” — along with portraits of hunger strikers.

Sınn Féın

The Sınn Féın lettering writ large in Creggan Heights, Derry (with the island of Ireland as a background, though this cannot be seen in the image above). The image below gives a much better sense of what the mural looked like under ordinary lighting.

The main panel, of three IRA volunteers with raised weapons, was painted by Sean ‘Conker’ Connolly, based on the poster below. Also on the wall are a Tricolour, “Sinn Fein/Gerry Adams” and a small board at the top with a raised fist and the slogan “Unity is strength”. Westrock Drive, Belfast.
