Clarke grew up in nearby Dungannon and there is a cumann of the 1916 Societies in Dungannon (Fb) and, according to this board, in Lurgan. (A statue to Clarke was later mounted in Dungannon – see Gaırdín Thomaıs Uí Chléırıgh.)

These graffiti are on the building below Kildrum Gardens. “Not a bullet, not an ounce” is a comment on (Provisional) IRA disarmament and continued physical-force resistance; “End British internment” is a comment on the fate of prisoners from anti-Agreement organisation; “Free Gaza!!” and “Israel scum” are comments on the 2014 Gaza War (WP).

This Ligoniel stencil by Damian Walker of GaelForce has proving controversial: Walker’s previous attempts have been painted over three times, according to an image in this 32 County Sovereignty post, which also alleges that Sınn Féın has been behind the removals. According to the Tele, a housing executive van was burnt out in response to one of the white-washings.
