A pair of hands with shirt-cuffs of the Union flag and Ulster Banner jointly point a pistol at a republican mother carrying a cross through a graveyard and field of bullets. A line of documents show the forces of the state (B-Specials, UDR, RUC) colluding with loyalist paramilitaries. Oakman Street, Belfast.

A phoenix rises out of a Celtic cross wrapped in the Tricolour. “This monument was erected by the republican people of greater Ballymurphy in proud and loving memory of all those volunteers from the area who gave their lives in the fight for Irish freedom. Unveiled by Gerry Adams 12th May 1985. I ndil cuimhne [chuimhne] i gcónai ag na poblachtánaigh ón cheantar Barr Cluanai. Also in memory of the civilians who died at the hands of the British Army, RUC, UDR and loyalist extremists.”

Painted in 1989 and badly damaged by 1990: Britain’s death squads: UDA and UVF behind the sunglasses and mask on one side, the UDR and RUC on the other, with clothing and skin stripped away, and the British Army at the bottom. To the left of shot is Dagda and to the right Union Jack Crumbling.
