“Scaırt Amach – the voice of Irish republican prisoners – Maghaberry, Portlaoise, Hydebank”. Scaırt Amach (“Shout Out”) is a magazine containing articles by republican prisoners in the three prisons.

Palestinian icon Leila Khaled, who took part in aeroplane hijackings in 1969 and 1970, is featured in this new mural pro-Gaza mural in Hugo Street. The central portrait is a replication of a famous photo by Eddie Adams (WP), taken after her first skyjacking; she then underwent plastic surgery to disguise her identity prior to the 1970 attempt (WP).
Khaled is also featured in the pro-Gaza mural in McQuillan Street: Oppression Breeds Resistance
This mural replaces the right-hand side of Think Independently, Vote Independently.
On the left is an éirígí stencil calling for “Acht Na Gaeılge Anoıs!!!” – “An Irish Language Act Now!!!” The Belfast Telegraph reports that an Irish language bill will be published in the near future, though the DUP have already rejected such an Act. In the middle remains JFTC2.

The ‘Vote Tommy Doherty’ portion of this RNU mural on Northumberland Street (Visual History) has been replaced with a pro-Palestinian message – a clenched fist in the colours of Palestine between the emblems of the RNU and the Popular Front For The Liberation Of Palestine. The Arabic reads “Our day is coming”/”Tıocfaidh ár lá”.

The Craigavon Two – John-Paul Wootton and Brendan McConville – were convicted in 2012 of the 2009 murder of PSNI Constable Steven Carroll (BBC) and sentenced to 18- and 25-year minimums, respectively. The case is under review (Guardian) and a campaign for their release is under way (Fb).
The stencilled mural above shows two pairs of arms in chains, surrounded by a border of chains; it replaces the right-hand side of Think Independently.

The primary concern is the treatment of prisoners in Maghaberry and elsewhere – “Republicans against internment”, “Stop the strip searches in Maghaberry”, “Smash Maghaberry”, “End British torture in Maghaberry”, “Restore political status” – followed by anger at Sınn Féın for its collusion with the organs of Westminster – “Sinn Féin – we deliver British rule” and “Provo puppets still administering British rule”.

“Justice for the Craigavon 2” – this is the second piece in the Peter Moloney Collection about the campaign to release Brendan McConville and John Paul Wootton, the pair convicted for their part in the 2009 killing of Stephen Carroll (BBC) – the first was a piece of graffiti in Ardoyne in 2013.

The piece features (left) Colin Duffy, who was arrested in November 2012 in connection with the murder of David Black (BBC | WP), and (right) Marian Price (WP) who was released on May 2013 after two years in prison.
This stencil in the New Lodge (Queen’s Parade) replaced the previously graffiti-ed version of the same message in 2012.
