The Bloody Sunday Window

In addition to the 13 people killed on Bloody Sunday, plus John Johnston who died later, the window commemorates “the innocent people killed during the Troubles in the Derry area.”

The artist’s signature is in the bottom left: “Peter T.G. Rooney”.

Ireland Says No To G8

The G8 – meeting in Enniskillen next week – have the Earth in a vice and are making its children poor on a diet of “Arms trade, care home closures, bedroom tax, waste incineration, climate change, austerity.” Free Derry Collective

Impunity

Line drawing in Derry by Carlos Latuff showing an army soldier, with “impunity” across his shoulders, taking aim at a blindfolded woman, representing martyrs’ families.

Latuff is a Brazilian political cartoonist (web site). This piece is outside the Free Museum of Derry. Just out of shot (to the right) is an actual bullet-hole from Bloody Sunday. He also added a drawing to Free Derry corner (M08306). On the same visit (July 2012), he worked in Belfast on a mural expressing solidarity between Palestinian and republican POWs and also did a line drawing on a café wall.

A light shone in the night” and the one to the right reads “In memory of Joseph Baxter Corry (Joe) Gone but not forgotten. You’ll always be in our hearts. Farewell our absent friend.”

The lion and the unicorn are from the UK coat of arms.

Interned By Britain

“Interned by Britain, facilitated by Stormont.” Marian Price was released on May 39th, 2013 (BBC) but it took a while for some IRPWA (web) placards to come down. The first is in Lone Moor Road, Derry. The second – “Support the republican POWs on protest in Maghaberry” – is in Eastway, Derry and was later vandalised (see M09535). The third is in Brompton Park, Ardoyne, Belfast.

See previously: Free Marian Price (2011) and Free Marian Price Now (2012). The other portrait in the final image is Martin Corey – see e.g. 38 Days.
