The Brave Thirteen

A small board and two murals in the Fountain, London-Derry. The board has the city of Derry crest on it surrounded by Ulster banner, Union jack, St Andrew’s Saltire, and Apprentice Boys flag; the first mural lists the names of the thirteen apprentice boys; the second is a William King Memorial flute band “founded 1973”, again with the crest of the city.

Harpist

Posters demanding the release of POWs (“Saoırse – release political prisoners now”) on top of a mural of an Irish harpist, in Edlingham Street, Belfast.

Perhaps painted in 1988 along with murals depicting a paschal lamb (C00111 | X05493), a shamrock (C04981), Gaelic games (C04977), doves (M01248), and possibly this mural of the Knock apparition in 1879 (Street View).

Ancient & Christian Ireland

A large board on the old Top Of The Hill community centre, Gobnascale, Derry, showing a prancing stallion in front of a (neolithic) dolmen and (mediaeval) round tower (perhaps the missing tower where Long Tower now stands).

There is a thought that “Gobnascale” is Irish for “field of the stallion” (McLaughlin 1999).

Also on the community centre (in 1981): A Political Prisoner Of War.
