We Deliver British Rule

Here is a gallery of anti-Agreement stencils and hand-painted boards in Newry. The primary concern is the treatment of prisoners in Maghaberry and elsewhere – “Republicans against internment”, “Stop the strip searches in Maghaberry”, “Smash Maghaberry”, “End British torture in Maghaberry”, “Restore political status” – followed by anger at Sınn Féın for its collusion with the organs of Westminster – “Sinn Féin – we deliver British rule” and “Provo puppets still administering British rule”.

Justice For The Craigavon 2

“Justice for the Craigavon 2” – this is the second piece in the Peter Moloney Collection about the campaign to release Brendan McConville and John Paul Wootton, the pair convicted for their part in the 2009 killing of Stephen Carroll (BBC) – the first was a piece of graffiti in Ardoyne in 2013.

Release The Duffy 3

This board on Rossville Street, Derry, originally named only “Colin Duffy”. It was then modified for Marian Price and again for Martin Corey. It now reads “End internment by remand and release the Duffy 3 now!” The “Duffy 3” are Colin’s brothers Paul and Damien and cousin Shane, who are charged with collecting information of use to terrorists (BelTel).

Political Hostage

“Release Martin Corey, political prisoner. End internment now” with an unusual use of a dove rather than a lark. For background, see Release Martin Corey. With various other anti-Agreement graffiti and stencils in the area, including a “Join RSF [Republican Sınn Féın] – Éıre Nua” stencil, “SF” in a cross-hairs, and a “CIRA” “RIRA” cross-word.

End British Internment!

“End British internment! Maghaberry. End forced strip searching! End controlled movement!” The high-security prison holds 1,000 prisoners and segregates loyalists and republicans, a situation described as “a festering sore” in a recent inspection (Tele). Republicans say that the current crisis overlooks existing issues such as controlled movement and strip searches.
