David Trimble was leader of the UUP and first First Minister of the new Assembly. This Ballybeen graffiti might date back to that period (1998-2005), as the issue of IRA decommissioning led to suspensions of the parliament and Trimble’s own (temporary) stepping-down.

Wide shot of two Castlemara murals – one UDA, one UVF – previously seen in 2008. The fourth flag in the UFF mural is the flag of Ulster Nationalism (WP). Similarly, on the lamp-post fly both the UDA emblem and a flag commemorating the Ulster Volunteers in the 36th Division.

This mural mixes the Ulster Volunteers who fought at the Somme, Ypres, Arras, Thiepval, St Quentin, Grandcourt, Messines, Fricourt with local volunteers from the modern-day UVF: William Hannagan, William Lightbody, Stephen Campbell, Stuart Allan, Keith McKinstry, Eddie Moreland, Michael McKeague, Thomas O’Brien, Jim Moore, David Stirling.
