Sons Of Ulster Flute Band

The Sons Of Ulster (Fb)/UVF mural in Conway Walk is repainted (compare with 2006). The main wall adds some new names on the far left (Metcalfe and Balmer); the side wall is converted to an image of the 36th (Ulster) Division going over the top.

[UVF 1st (West Belfast) Brigade, A company, Platoon] No 5. Sons of Ulster f[lute] b[and]. Vol Noel Kinner, with Thomas (Tombo) Kinner and a dozen other names. See the 2006 for (limited) information.

“In times of need they Volunteered/Came forth to do the right/They never shirked nor faltered/In their noble, gallant fight.//A gratitude to one and all/To all of Ulster’s best/You will never be forgotten/In our hearts and thoughts you rest.”

Mourneview Youth

Here is the scene at Mourne Road along the side of the Mace (later a Spar). On the low wall is a ‘Mourneview Youth’ mural (presumably by BlazeFX) – there were previously LVF murals on this wall. In the bricked-up windows are a series of cultural panels, on the Battle Of The Boyne, music, William McFadzean’s VC, fire, faith, defence (WWI), plus one other (perhaps ‘school’?)

UVF Band

“They said we’d never last.” The UVF Regimental (flute) Band (tw) celebrates 40 years in existence with a banner across the Newtownards Road at the Belvoir Bar (to the left of the bunting in the third image). (The final image is of the bunting in Lendrick street, across Newtownards Road). See also: 50th anniversary.
