The three “Brits” are probably the two British sappers killed by the Real IRA at Massareene barracks and a PSNI constable shot by the CIRA two days later, on March 9th.

“In proud and loving memory of Vol. Colm Keenan and Vol. Eugene McGillan killed on active service 14th March 1972. Beırıgí bua.” Six weeks after Bloody Sunday, teenagers Keenan and McGillan were shot and killed during a gun battle between the IRA and British Army in which, it is claimed, they were not participants (RN/AP).

Colin Duffy was arrested in connection with the Real IRA attack on Massareene barracks in which two British Army soldiers were killed. His original arrest was voided in March 2009 but he was quickly re-arrested.

Terry McCafferty had is license revoked in December 2018 for associating with “known dissidents”. Republicans considered this a form of internment and mounted a campaign for his release (32CSM); he was released in April 2010 (An Phoblacht). The RNU board reads “Internment: political suppression and state oppression 40 years on.”

The IRA volunteers were three of the six people shot in Lurgan in three incidents in November and December of 1982: Seamus Grew, Roddy Carroll, Michael Tighe. The deaths of the six would be investigated by the Stalker Inquiry into the shoot-to-kill policy.

The lines are from Pablo Neruda’s poem ‘I Like For You To Be Still‘. The trio of IRA volunteers were shot and killed on 11 November, 1982, by an undercover unit of the RUC in an alleged shoot-to-kill incident.

IRA volunteer Raymond McCreesh, originally from Camlough, died on May 21st, 1981, after 61 days on hunger strike. “In proud and loving memory of ten brave Irish soldiers who died on hunger strike in 1981 for their five just demands.
