Attack of the Ulster Division
Ulster Volunteers in the 36th (Ulster) Division go over the top at the Battle Of The Somme, 1916 – a partial recreation of JP Beadle’s “Battle of the Somme: Attack of the Ulster Division”, which hangs in Belfast City Hall (militaryprints.com). The base is a composite of orange lilies, thistles, and roses.

The Young, The Brave, The Fearless
2009 images of the YCV mural on Broadway in the Village, Belfast, seen previously in 2008. The plaque on the side wall reads: “In loving memory of Volunteer Colin Castle, died 17th February 2006. Lest we forget.” The additional wide shot includes the John Hanna mural and (barely visible) the small Gary Hamilton mural (see C05190).

Absent Friends
Sir Edward Carson founded the Ulster Volunteers with James Craig in 1912. At the outbreak of the Great War, its volunteers served in the British Army in the 36th (Ulster) Division and died on the fields of Flanders. “Here lies a soldier.”

“In proud and loving memory of our fallen comrades 2nd battalion south Belfast will always be remembered by the officers and volunteers ‘B’ company Village. Killed In Action
The plaques read “36th Ulster Division – dedicated to all our fallen comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends.
