Rev. General Ian Paisley

m00597

Ian Paisley in 1986 (in the aftermath of the Anglo-Irish Agreement) declared that we were on the verge of “civil war”. The reference to Canada is obscure – Paisley went to Canada at the time of the UWC strike in 1974; he also had a brother living there. On the left-hand side of the wall is the “latest from Casement Park: IRA 2, SAS [0]” – perhaps a reference to the killings of Corporals Wood and Howes at the funeral of IRA volunteer Caoimhín Mac Brádaigh.

“Super Prod Michael ‘Rambo’ Stone is a hero”. Stone killed three mourners (two civilians and an IRA volunteer) at the funeral of the Gibraltar 3. His actions are added to a score-sheet of IRA deaths, alongside the three in Gibraltar and eight in Loughgall. In the bottom image, “Enniskillen will be remembered”: Stone said one of his motivations was the Enniskillen bombing, in which the IRA killed eleven people.

Two pieces of graffiti related to Michael Stone’s attack on the March 16th joint funeral of the Gibraltar Three, at which he killed three people. On the left, “Fuck the Blarney [stone], kiss the Michael “Stone””; on the right, “Rambo Stone!” with a crude drawing. Unknown street, Belfast – please get in touch if you recognize the location.

Four images of graffiti in Manor Street, Belfast, beginning with an encomium to Michael Stone, the UDA volunteer who (in 1988) had killed three mourners at the funerals of the IRA’s Gibraltar Three. The last two images show that Manor Street is cut in two, with a Protestant area to the south and a Catholic area to the north.

The fence in the second image is now a wall. “UFF” “UDA” “YCV” “UYM” “SSRUC” “Black bastards” “Kill all cops” “RUC keep out”
