Give Sectarianism The Boot

This is just one of the nine kids and local community boards (five from the Charter Youth Club, four from the Sandy Row Womans Group [sic]) at the blind end of Blythe Street, Belfast. The panel in the middle right of this one is of kids taking part in “Give Sectarianism The Boot” an initiative of the IFA and Community Relations Council.

FC Sankt Pauli

St Pauli is a Hamberg soccer club with a wide following due to the “gegen Rechts” [against the right] philosophy of its fans. Its supporters clubs can be found in places as far-flung as Belfast, Liverpool, Bilbao, Stockholm, San Francisco, and (naturally!) St Paul (Minnesota, USA).

St Colmcille

Three new murals are added to the walls of the Lecky Road underpass to brighten it up. Above, St Colmcille (St Columba) sails from Derry to Iona (Scotland), in order to start a monastery there; he founded a Derry monastery in 540. The smaller pieces show the emblem of (Glasgow) Celtic FC and a young mother in front of a (civil rights?) protest beside Free Derry Corner.
