Éırígí (web) was formed in 2006 and became a political party in 2007, with candidates standing for two seats in 2011’s local elections. For its public art, it used stencils to promote itself and to highlight issues such as the continued presence of British troops in the North (“There are more British troops in Ireland than in Iraq”).

“I ndıl chuımhne – In proud and loving memory of Volunteers Dan McCann, Mairead Farrell, Sean Savage, Óglaıgh Na hÉıreann who were executed by British Crown forces in Gibraltar 6th March, 1988.” The three were killed in Gibraltar by the SAS in what was known as “Operation Flavius”. The European Court Of Human Rights found that the use of force was unlawful. (WP)

The WBTA mural (on the International Wall (Visual History) is quickly repainted, with the central mural of the Easter Rising replaced with a gable-end version of a small (1981) mural in Rockdale St (long gone by 2008; in fact, none of the three murals depicted is extant in 2008 and none existed in the form shown).

The orange lily makes a rare appearance in a paramilitary mural. The hooded gunmen are from the UFF/UDA. Volunteer Stephen “Benson” Kingsberry is remembered in the panel towards the back of the house. He died from consuming tainted ecstasy (perhaps distributed by the UVF). He was included in the roll of honour in Lemberg Street. Kilburn Street, Belfast. Seen previously in 2005.
