By 1991, the family, and especially Bart Simpson, were famous enough to be used in the “Shantallow anti toxic waste campaign” against a DuPont “Toxic incinerator planned for Derry”: “Ban the burn – it’s a pain in the ash.” For a history of the campaign, see “A Burning Issue?” p. 7 ff.
