Free Stephen Kaczynski

Stephen (or Stephan) “Steve” Kaczynski will go before a Turkish court on September 18th on charges of membership of the Marxist-Leninist ‘Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front’ (DHKP-C). (WP) In April, members of the group took over a courtroom and held a state prosecutor hostage; when special forces stormed the building, the hostage and two of his captors died. (Independent) Kaczynski, a freelance journalist from Scotland, is alleged to be instrumental in financing the group. Alternatively, (according to various newspaper reports) he is an undercover agent of the Germans (Daily Sabah) or the British (Brian Haw). He has been on hunger-strike in protest at the conditions in Maltepe #3 since June 25th.

Replaces the announcement of a talk about torture in prisons. For the wider frame, see The Only Secure Community Is An Organised One.

In Defence Of The Nation

This is a new mural from the 32 County Sovereignty Movement (web) on the international wall, Divis Street, (Visual History) with symbols of nationalism (the crests of the four provinces, the harp, the Tricolour), socialism (the plough in the stars) and support for republican POWs (the barbed wire).

For an earlier version see 100% British.

You Cannot Kill Ideas

A week before he was assassinated and his government overthrown, Burkina Faso president Thomas Sankara asserted: “While revolutionaries as individuals can be murdered, you cannot kill ideas.” Sankara gained power of Burkina Faso (then Upper Volta) in a 1983 coup and launched an ambitious programme of literacy, feminism, public health, and agricultural self-sufficiency, in addition to launching a drive against corruption and of nationalizing natural resources. He attempted this all without the assistance of foreign aid or the IMF or World Bank. However, he wielded power outside the jurisdiction of the courts and controlled the press. He and twelve colleagues were killed in October 1987.

Short Strand Supports Republican POWs

A number of stencils were added last year (2014) in the corner of the wall at the top of Mountpottinger Road, in the Short Strand, to the right of the Charlie Monahan mural (seen before in 2006).

From left to right: an IRPWA (web) mural with the crests of the four provinces; an IRPWA mural with a prisoner being abused; “Short Strand supports Maghaberry Portlaoise Hydebank republican POWs; “Justice for the Craigavon 2 John-Paul Wootton and Brendan McConville”

Leonard Peltier

“RNU call for the release of Leonard Peltier – http://www.freeleonard.org“. The lower left-hand panel of the RNU spot on Northumberland Street is serving as a changeable notice-board – it was previously The Popular Front.

Peltier has been in jail since 1977, convicted of killing two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1975 and sentenced to two life-sentences (WP).

Justice For The Craigavon Two

This Ligoniel stencil by Damian Walker of GaelForce has proving controversial: Walker’s previous attempts have been painted over three times, according to an image in this 32 County Sovereignty post, which also alleges that Sınn Féın has been behind the removals. According to the Tele, a housing executive van was burnt out in response to one of the white-washings.

The “Craigavon Two” are John-Paul Wooton and Brendan McConville. For background, see JFTC2.
